Pitt Meadows Yesterday
The first European settlers worked for the Hudson's Bay Company and made their homes across the Fraser River from Fort Langley. Pitt Meadows was incorporated in 1874. Pitt Lake, Pitt River and Pitt Meadows were named after William Pitt the Younger, British Prime Minister during much of the Napoleonic Wars, by James McMillan who established Fort Langley (Akrigg).
